Cooking From Scratch for Beginners: Why We Do It
I and my wife share cooking responsibilities. And trust me, she does not like cooking. We still cook almost every meal from scratch. It is not because we want to, we cook from scratch for the following reasons:
Packaged and boxed foods may save time but are not healthy. For many years we ate fast food 4-5 times a week. It caused us to fall sick more often to say the least. Even mainstream medical advice is to reduce or avoid processed foods. We make our food from scratch so we can follow a vegetarian diet.
It Saves Money
With some meal delivery services, it’s possible to eat healthy food without actually cooking it. But if I did that every day or even every week it would get really expensive really fast. Weekly Meal delivery services can be 3 to 5 times the cost of cooking at home.
We still eat out once or twice every week and it is about $50-$70 a week for a family of four. Add to that eating out on yearly vacations. We are still spending over $3000 every year.
"In 2016, one couple reviewed their credit card statements only to find that they spent $30,000 eating out in 2016, according to Frugal Rules blogger John Schmoll. That's more than $82 a day for their three-person family."
